Fashion Pixie App Goes Local!

posted on in iPhone App / Fashion Pixie /

For those of you that don’t already know, since May 2010, we’ve had our very own iPhone app, that directly mirrors the sales and offers on our site.  It has been a huge success, appearing regularly in the iTunes Top 25 lifestyle apps and has attracted tens of thousands of downloads.

Last week it was relaunched and given a glamorous new make-over to make it easier to use and more helpful to the shopper on the street. It allows users to have a localised look on the deals and bargains on offer, and where else they can locate these savings!

We have taken a commonsense approach and the map function seemed like best next step to evolving the app and making deals easier to find. The new app allows users to locate the deals by viewing the nearest stores in a map format. This means that they can not only see the deals that apply to them, but they can also locate shops and deals faster than having to search online for the shop itself.

Just like the online site and the original app, users still receive the same great insider information about fashion sales, deals and discount codes from all over the UK and internet. As it is updated throughout the day on the app and online there is no need to have to wait for the next batch of deals to come through, you can just check and go! Dont forget the twice weekly email alert that subscribers receive informing them of the top deals!

The new app has already been amazingly received with thousands of downloads and we are delighted that so many women are using the site and app to keep up to date with the best fashion deals.

Make sure you take a look at TheFashionPixie.com app here!

Finding the right footwear

posted on in Fashion Tips / Fashion Pixie /

Shoes are such an important part of a woman`s wardrobe – in fact, we are famed for loving them! However they can also cause us a reasonable amount of distress, they are usually a reasonably expensive purchase and if the wrong shoes are bought then they just end up sat on a shelf, unworn and unloved.

So, how to we make sure that we find the right footwear? Well there are several factors to consider to make sure that every shoe that you own makes you feel fabulous.

Firstly, you need to know your personality and sense of style. Have a think about the things that you love to wear. Is there an over riding theme to them? Are you a sporty or tomboy type where comfort is absolutely paramount? If so you probably have a few pairs of heels on your shoe rack that you have never worn, probably purchased when you felt like you absolutely had to for a special occasion. If this sounds like you, simply stop buying dramatic, uncomfortable shoes!

Heels are never mandatory and no matter how tempted you are by them or feel like you ought to wear them in certain circumstances, you will feel so uncomfortable that you won`t look right. You will feel much better with flat shoes. Flat doesn’t have to mean frumpy though. Look for funky trainer styles for your casual wardrobe in cool colours and then pretty flats for your occasion wear.

Ballet pump style shoes are brilliant for this, as you can get them in great colours and often with bows, jewels or other embellishments to keep them looking special for your smart wardrobe.

You may be the complete opposite of this – a girly girl who is obsessed with heels and will wear shoes, no matter how uncomfortable if they are pretty enough. Here you are probably fine with buying shoes for special occasions, but struggle with casual shoes. In this case look for practical shoes with a pretty or feminine edge. Even wellies are available in floral prints and bright colours these days and the same is definitely also true for trainers!

Next look at your lifestyle and make sure that your shoe collection is balanced with it. If you live a practical, sporty life and don`t often go out, make sure that your shoe racks aren`t filled with exotic shoes for special occasions.

If you are smart more than you are casual, the reverse should be true – it sounds obvious, but this is one of the biggest mistakes people make when buying shoes!

Autumn Fashion Trends

posted on in Fashion Tips,Latest Trends / Fashion Pixie /

Fashion is one of the fastest moving industries in the world and as a result trends are constantly evolving and adapting meaning it`s easy to get left behind. However, there are some key trends that should definitely be followed to stay fashionable this season.

For women one key trend is to embrace the tomboy look with more masculine fashion. This trend means that the Brogue is popular again, making a reappearance from last year but this time brogues include things such as a Monk strap and come in a range of bright colours. It also means that suit jackets, fitted trousers and shirts are all popular choices for women.

One particularly masculine trend which has been spotted on several catwalks was the women`s tuxedo which has been slightly modified for a sexy yet eloquent look.

Another important trend, which is also making a comeback, is colour blocking, which involves pairing blocks of bold colour with other blocks of colour to create a strikingly beautiful look. For this trend the brighter the better with pastels definitely not being the colour of choice. This ties in perfectly with another important women`s trend; the sixties revival. Of course, this means psychedelic patterns, t-bar pumps, sleeveless dresses and scoop neck dresses featuring bright colours.

For men the trends are quite different with a key look being the military style which incorporates army style boots, tough khakis and dark earthy colours. This style is perfect for winter as it protects against the harsh weather and still looks good with accessories such as plain colour scarves and hats.

Another key style for men is what is known as the preppy look which continues from last year and shows no sign of slowing in terms of popularity. This trend features polo shirts, tight jumpers, chino trousers and colourful cardigans. For the feet this trend sports boat shoes, loafers and desert boots. One reason why this trend is so popular is its versatility as it can be worn on warm days as well as colder days and at night which also makes it an ideal trend for winter.

There are so many places to pick up the latest trends with many available on the high street at affordable prices. Also, many online fashion retailers will offer the latest trends at a reduced price and there may also be a Groupon deal available. This means that staying fashionable is easy and won`t cost a lot of money.

Fashion range to launch at Waitrose

posted on in Latest Trends / Fashion Pixie /

Supermarket fashion ranges have been growing from strength to strength over the last few years, rivalling high street brands. Tesco is even sponsoring one of this year’s most prestigious fashion events, London Fashion Week. So it’s great news to hear another supermarket jumping on the bandwagon.

Upmarket Waitrose has announced that it will be introducing a fashion range for the first time at its Canary Wharf store in London. The collection will be unveiled next month and although nothing has been confirmed yet, rumour has it, Waitrose is likely to introduce a range of already established brands to its stores, similar to its sister brand John Lewis.

We are hoping they will roll the range out to more stores in the future. So be prepared, you might be faced with a few more temptations when you attempt your weekly shop!

Jaeger to launch more standalone concessions

posted on in Discount Codes / Fashion Pixie /

boutiquebyjaeger

We’ve heard this week that Jaeger is expanding its younger line, Boutique by Jaeger, with further concessions and store openings.

We are big fans of the Boutique range that aims to target younger customers with a price point generally 30 per cent cheaper than the mainline range. The new range will launch in seven House of Fraser stores this month, increasing the number of Boutique by Jaeger concessions from 3 to 10. They will be located at Guildord, Leeds, Belfast, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundrum in Irelend and Oxford Street, London.

Jaeger has 45 standalone stores in the UK, with its newest opening in Newcastle in June, and next month another Jaeger London store will open at London’s Brent Cross.

Belinda Earl, Jaeger’s group chief executive, said: ‘We are delighted to be continually investing in and expanding our store portfolio. This new development sees a major roll-out for Boutique by Jaeger, taking it to a wider department store audience, and supports the on-going growth of our Jaeger London freestanding concept stores which are performing strongly. We will continue to look for further expansion opportunities both domestically and internationally.’

This season’s stunning Boutique collection has been inspired by street bloggers and their photographic documentation of style icons and we can’t wait to get our hands on a few key pieces. Plus if you you become a New Loyalty Customer you can receive 20% off simply follow this link to apply of ask for details instore.

Pixie’s Pick of the Sales

posted on in Fashion Bargains,Fashion Tips,Latest Trends,Top Sale Picks / Fashion Pixie /

Its coming to the end  of the summer sale season, but there are still some bargains to be had. With retailers dropping their prices lower than ever before, its time to get clicking because the discount goldmine is online!

Originally £35, is now £25 in the Warehouse online sale!

Originally £35, is now £25 in the Warehouse online sale!

The British high street has always been famous for its sale season, with crowds of eager shoppers often camping outside department stores overnight to secure a good deal in the morning. However, thanks to the introduction of online shopping, you can leave your sleeping bag at home and trawl the shops in the comfort of your own home.

A good money-saving idea for the sales is to, before you go, research the upcoming trends for the next season, this means that you can watch out for any pieces which may fall into any of the new-season’s ‘Most Wanted’ list!

With a larger supply of products and sizes, it is easier to locate exactly what you want. For example, if you are well-prepared and have already been checking out the new trends for Autumn/Winter 2011, then you would know how big ‘Aztec’ is going to be. Geometric prints, tassels and shaggy ‘coatigans’ (a coat and a cardigan in one) are all included, and this geometric tile print dress (left) from warehouse fits the bill perfectly. The wrap shape is flattering but not too revealing and subtly on-trend in a more sophisticated way. If this wasn’t enough, it has also been reduced in the sale to only £25.

Spots are the new stripes: go dotty for this cosy jumper!

Spots are the new stripes: go dotty for this cosy jumper!

As seen on the runways of Stella McCartney, DVF and Marc Jacobs, polka dots are a fresh alternative to the ever-present nautical stripe. In a fresh take on the traditional striped navy and white jumper, Warehouse’s jumper is now a snip at only £10, a huge saving from the original £38! This jumper can be worn with denim shorts during the remainder of summer and then with a fifties-style pencil skirt come autumn. Although it is quite a simple jumper, it can work with a variety of clothing but still remaining practical and warm, which is what a jumper is for at the end of the day!

Masculine dressing has been around for a while and shows no sign of relenting! Check out these gorgeous brogues from kurtgeiger.com for only £25

Check out these gorgeous brogues from kurtgeiger.com for only £25

There are still bargains to be had on more upmarket brands; kurtgeiger.com usually produces stunningly gorgeous shoes of high-quality, with a more upmarket price tag to match. However, its sister brand Miss KG which is also stocked on kurtgeiger.com, sells more affordable footwear. At full price these lace-ups were £65, but due to the summer sale, they have now been reduced to £25.

Masculine/Feminine has been a trend for the last few seasons and growing stronger all the time. Brogues like these (left) optimize the nature of this trend, with the strong masculine shape but the colour and texture are delicate and feminine.

The sales are not just great for finding next seasons key pieces, they can also help you find great quality, lasting items at a more affordable price. Denim jeans are one such object which everybody owns, but are so hard to find!

Many people shy away from buying jeans online, however it can often be a lot easier and less stressful if you have the comfort of your own home in which to try on a series of styles and sizes. You can then send back the unwanted pairs, instead of running in and out of cramped shop changing rooms which can be half of the hassel of finding jeans which fit.
Every girl needs a staple pair of casual jeans, no matter what the seasonThese Nudie Jeans are a perfect everyday pair, available from my-wardrobe.com, they have subtle fading to look more relaxed and are 60% off; whats not to love?

Similarly, wardrobe staples can be hard to find in the sales, but once you find them, it can be hard to say no! Reduced to only £10, this Topshop purse (below) is made of real leather and had enough compartments to keep all your cash, coins and cards safe. Also available at topshop.com are other style gems such as this rhinestone necklace (perfect for livening up a plain t-shirt) and these black jelly sandals (comfortable, cool and affordable).
Necklace £4.50 from £15; Purse £10 from £16; Sandals £5 from £10

Fashion Focus- Street Style

When it comes to the latest street trends, skater style is eponymous with the anti-establishment vibe that is eternally fashionable.

There are so many ways to interpret the look but whether you are a skater or not this trend is always current and a refreshing alternative to many of the bland fashion looks in the shop windows which line the majority of high streets.

Skater style has always been bold and cutting edge and goes against the grain. While in recent years it has definitely become more commercial there is still a strong sense of the “do-it-yourself” ethos which is an integral part of street fashion.

Street fashion, as its name suggests, comes from the street up and many designers keep their eye on the huge number of street fashion blogs which proliferate in cyber space to get their inspiration for the latest seasons catwalk trends.

So what is skater style? Well, at its most basic it is of course a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, not to mention some funky headwear which is essential to complete the look. Don`t be fooled into thinking that you can grab any old top and pants and successfully pull off this style. There are a few key elements which are essential to making sure that your sartorial attire reflects the latest fashion trends and will ensure that you stand out from the crowd.

Hats are a must, whether it`s a beany, a mesh baseball cap or even a hand knitted woollen animal hat for those who like to inject a bit of humour into their street style.

T-shirts should feature bold, graphic prints and shouldn`t be too baggy. Although many people favour shirts which have been created by big name brands, one of the best ways to express your individuality and create some true street flavour is to design your own image and get it screen printed yourself. There are plenty of companies out there which offer bespoke screen printing services so indulge your creative flair and wear something which is truly unique.

Jeans come in all different styles and are another place you can really express your individuality. Although baggy styles give you freedom of movement when you are skating, there are plenty of alternative styles which will help to pull together a really unique, street look. From antique stonewashed denims to strong indigo washes, anything goes as long as there`s plenty of detailing in the form of patches, prints and embroidery to give your pants a vibe which is a little bit different.

It`s not all about the denim, either. Cords, khaki`s and even evening pants can all be mis matched with a slim fitting tee or button down shirt for a look that`s just a touch more edgy.

Of course the most important part of pulling the street / skater look together is a pair of cool trainers. Skate shoes don`t just look good, they are practical too as they are designed to withstand the toughest of abuse from skaters who are serious about both their sport and their style.

Etnies are always a good choice as they not only give you incredible board grip, but
they look and feel awesome making them the ultimate accessory to complete the
most current street trends.

How do you get Next Sale VIP Status?

posted on in Fashion Tips / Fashion Pixie /

Next SaleThere’s always a lot of speculation surrounding the start of the Next sale and it’s easy to see why. Unlike most retailers, Next only have two main sale events per year, and when they do a sale they do it properly! Reducing around 80% of current stock by half price or more.

Die-hard Next fans may have been lucky enough to be invited as a Next VIP this year, allowing them to book an online sale slot and get the first chance to order bargains in the week running up to the main store event. But how do you get an invite I hear you ask? Lots of loyal customers find year after year their invite hasn’t landed.

They don’t just give them out to anyone, oh no, here is the criteria to make sure you get a chance to bag the bargains first. To be selected for an invitation you must:

  1. Have a Next flexible credit account with at least £250 credit available.
  2. Have ordered from the Next Directory this year.
  3. Make sure you are registered to receive sale and promotional emails (you can amend these details when you sign into your account.
  4. Agree to have  a copy of the Next Directory.
  5. You must have returned less than two thirds of the items you bought this year.

And always remember if you want future VIP status, make sure you use your current VIP slot and add an item to your shopping basket within 20 minutes or you may find you’re not selected for VIP events in the future.

As for us non VIPS, we will be queuing bleary eyed at 5am on Saturday morning and then dashing around the store grabbing every vaguely recognisable item in sight. All to return most of it the following week. We’re not mad really!
